According to the latest survey by British company Expert Market, linking the commercial potential of tech hubs with their quality of life (salaries, rents, cost of living, etc.), Berlin leads the worldwide ranking while Paris is 10th and 3rd in Europe, also behind Amsterdam.

The German capital leads the world ranking ahead of Austin (USA) and Toronto (Canada), followed by San Francisco, Boston, Tel Aviv, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Montréal and Paris.

Berlin's main asset, according to Expert Market, is the short time it takes to travel to work, while the city ranks 4th in terms of cost of living and amount of paid leave.

Expert Market noted how New York (17th) and London (16th) do not feature in the top 10, owing to their high cost of living and long journey times to work.

"Our philosophy is that if you are to thrive in an area, either working in tech or building your own company, you need a balance between potential corporate success and an enjoyable lifestyle.," says the survey.
