As part of its marketing efforts around the royal wedding on May 19, Marks & Spencer (M&S) temporarily re-branded in honour of the new member of Britain’s royal family, Meghan Markle.

The Windsor M&S store was rebranded for the weekend

The company which is often referred to colloquially as Marks & Sparks became Markle & Sparkle on Friday with the name change running until Sunday.

The official unveiling of the re-brand took place on Friday morning at the M&S Windsor store.

The company also reflected the re-brand on its website, its social media accounts and in store windows in eight Royal boroughs: Kensington & Chelsea, Reading, Maidenhead, Camberley, Bracknell, Newbury, Leamington Spa, Tunbridge Wells, Swindon, Kingston Upon Thames, Lewisham, Llandudno and Sutton Coldfield.

Sharry Cramond, Marketing Director Food & Hospitality, M&S said: “As a quintessentially British brand we had to do something special to mark the royal wedding. As a retailer we’ve celebrated 34 Royal Weddings over our 134-year history, but this is the boldest idea we’ve delivered yet.”

As a foot traffic driver on a day that could have been expected to see consumers staying away from stores, selected M&S Cafes on Saturday screened the wedding while also offering other wedding-themed products and giveaways.

And the firm installed Markle & Sparkle selfie booths at all of its Royal borough stores.
