Belstaff is continuing its  retail expansion programme under its new owners and is opening a store under a new 10-year lease in Glasgow. The Scottish city, which is one of the UK's primary retail destination cities, has seen a raft of upscale retailers opening there in recent periods and Belstaff’s arrival will underline its importance as a strong location for luxury labels.

The new shop will be on Ingram Street and will cover 2,175 sq ft  (202 sq m), with the retailer paying £105,000 a year in rent, property specialist Savills said. It will be open by next month.

Meanwhile, next door has seen Fred Perry moving into the corner unit following the lease surrender by the existing tenant, Brora. The menswear designer is paying £70,000 annually on 780 sq ft (72.5 sq m) for a new 10-year lease.

As well as the street’s luxury profile, it's also strong on menswear and other brands located there currently include Armani, Gant, Hugo Boss, Mulberry, Ralph Lauren and Cruise.

John Menzies, director in the retail agency team at Savills Glasgow, said: “Hot on the heels of Mulberry opening its new concept store at 197-207 Ingram Street last November, the addition of Belstaff and Fred Perry further improves the profile of Ingram Street and heralds the most active period of leasing on the street for many years.

“Bookended by the affluent area of Merchant City to the east and Buchanan Street to the west, the street is emerging as a luxury retail destination as upmarket brands choose to cluster together while avoiding the premium rents associated with Buchanan Street.”
