The Association of Suppliers to the British Clothing Industry (ASBCI) has a new chair and an additional vice-chair.

Dr Julie King, Executive Dean for the School of Digital Technologies and Arts at Staffordshire University, takes up the lead post, with Garry Knox, Sustainability Director at Green Earth Cleaning, taking up the latter post, alongside existing vice-chair Jonty Wilson.

Formerly ASBCI Event Director for 10 years, Dr King brings 30 years’ experience in fashion and textiles academia to her new role, having worked in universities across the UK and abroad. She takes over from Dr Alistair Knox, who stepped down in March and will continue to serve on the association’s board of directors.

Knox, meanwhile, was previously the body’s Membership and Marketing Director, a position he held from 2016.

ASBCI said Dr King takes charge of the body “at a time of rapid change for the fashion and textile sector”, and will “focus on the continued development of the association as a centre of technical excellence and knowledge sharing within the UK industry”.

In particular, “her expertise in digital technologies will be essential for guiding the ASBCI’s ongoing digital journey and evolution of its activities to ensure a rewarding and relevant membership experience”, it noted.

Outgoing Chair Dr Knox added: “Her experience and knowledge of the industry and its digital transformation make her perfectly placed to continue the ASBCI’s own transformation and ensure the association remains relevant to members in this new era.”
