The Madrid trade fairs are back for another year. Between February 3 and 5, pavilion 8 of the Ifema exhibition centre will once again host Momad. The Madrid fashion, footwear and accessories fair will take place, for the third time, in parallel to the Intergift, Bisutex and MadridJoya events, which will occupy halls 3, 5 and 7, respectively. The aim of creating these synergies is to generate "cross-sector alliances" and offer a " comprehensive visit" to buyers attending the fair.

"We are moderately pleased. Despite recent events and economic uncertainty, the feedback in terms of marketing has been good. Many companies that performed well at the September edition are coming back and, gradually, the number of participating footwear brands is growing again," Julia González, director of Ifema's fashion, beauty and lifestyle fairs since September 2021, said in an interview with FashionNetwork.com. Since then, the executive with three decades of experience has led the 1001 Bodas, Bisutex, Digicom, Intergift, Madridjoya, Momad, Promogift and Salon Look events.

Despite the organiser's caution, with only three weeks to go until the event is held, expectations are high. Forecasts are for the "good results of last September's edition" to be maintained, when the four Ifema fairs were visited by around 35,000 professional visitors and 1,300 companies from 14 different countries. The event, held from September 16 to 18, exceeded initial expectations, bringing in 300 participating brands and returning to pre-pandemic attendance figures.

According to González, this year Momad will have the same number of exhibitors and will feature more than 20 footwear companies. Among them will be a number of leading names in the sector, such as Alma en Pena, Mascaró, Pons Quintana and Calzados Victoria.

"This initiative aims to respond to the needs of companies and visitors, presenting a more comprehensive offer that is more in line with modern-day shops," added the director.

Since Momad Metrópolis and Momad Shoes merged in 2018, the trade fairs dedicated to fashion and footwear have been held jointly at Ifema. In their first edition under this new format, the space reserved for footwear companies presented 80 brands.

In order to drive its global reach, the fair will once again feature its foreign buyers' programme, organised in conjunction with the events held in parallel. Likewise, the event will present brands from countries such as Italy, France, Portugal and Turkey in its halls. According to the director of the event, the biggest surprise has been the increasing participation of Greek brands. Over the last few editions, brands from Greece, which had previously focused more on Italian trade fairs, have opted to participate in Spain mainly due to "strong tourism."

The first week of February will kick off with the Intergift gift and decoration fair, between February 1 and 5, while the jewellery and costume jewellery events, Bisutex and MadridJoya, will be held from February 2 to 5. Likewise, MBFW Madrid, also held at Ifema, will take place just a few days later at the capital's trade fair centre, between February 15 and 19.
