In celebration of its tenth anniversary, the New York City Ballet invited a number of designers to its annual fall gala to dress its troupe of classical dancers. Among them was the Cordoba-born designer behind Palomo Spain, who created 10 looks for the occasion.

Held on September 28th at the Lincoln Center, the event hosted by actress Sarah Jessica Parker, vice-president of the ballet, also counted on the participation of its frequent collaborators such as Dries Van Noten, Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, Thom Browne and Iris Van Herpen. Also joining the list of renowned names this year were creators Giles Deacon, Raf Simons and Spanish designer Alejandro Gómez Palomo.

Before an audience that included celebrities such as Julia Fox, Beyoncé, Billy Porter and Glenn Close, the Spanish designer presented a series of 10 monochromatic and oversized ensembles using more than 800,000 Swarovski crystals, a long-time collaborator of the brand. The designer enlisted the expertise of 16 artisans, who worked in the New York City Ballet's ateliers for more than 1,500 hours applying the details onto the garments using a crystal transfer technique, a modern take on embroidery.

The performance was produced together with choreographer Gianna Reisen and City Ballet's costume director, Marc Happel. Meanwhile, the music was provided by Solange Knowles, who composed an original score for the event.

This is not Palomo's only recent collaborative endeavour. A little over a month ago, the couturier teamed up with German sportswear brand Puma to launch a genderless collection inspired by the soccer stars of the 1970s.
