Legendary hair stylist Sam McKnight has been announced as the recipient of the 2019 Isabella Blow Fashion Creator Award for his contribution to the fashion industry.

Born in Scotland, McKnight is considered one of the most influential hairstylists in the world, helping shape the image of global brands such as Balmain, Burberry and Chanel.

During his 50-year career, he was involved in the creation of famous images with top photographers, including Craig McDean, Irving Penn and Nick Knight. His unique ability to create modern looks translated into countless contributions to British and international Vogues, plus i-D, Harper’s Bazaar and Vanity Fair, while some of his clients for personal appearances have included Cate Blanchett, Emilia Clarke, Kate Moss, Uma Thurman and Princess Diana.

“Sam is one of the most important image makers of our time, hugely respected within the fashion community and a source of inspiration for many generations to come. We look forward to celebrating with him and his friends in London in December,” commented Caroline Rush, chief executive of the British Fashion Council.

McKnight will receive the accolade at the Fashion Awards on Monday 2 December at the Royal Albert Hall.

In addition to recognising the best of the fashion industry, the Fashion Awards are an evening with plenty of glamour and serve as a fundraiser for the British Fashion Council’s many initiatives.

Last year, the fashion organisation raised over £2.3 million for its charities and business support initiatives.

In winning the Isabella Blow Award, Sam McKnight follows in the footsteps of industry heavyweights such as Pat McGrath, Nick Knight and Edward Enninful. In 2015 he also won the Lifetime Achievement title at the Scottish Fashion Awards.
