Interview with stephanie phairpresident of the british fashion council : the principle that we've gone on is that the show must go on, there's so much creativity and innovation, life continues. and for so many of these designers, this is their business. they're either students that are coming out of their fashion school with their first collection or more established designers for whom this is their livelihood. and having a platform to showcase in a time like this was absolutely essential.there are a lot, a lot of good names out there. you might have seen them from the fashion awards, priya ahluwalia is one, bianca saunders is another one. so, these are designers that have really blurred the lines between menswear, womenswear, that are thinking about the big topics of our time, sustainability, inclusion, and that is really where design is heading in the future. and so those are some of the names to watch.i'm always unbelievably impressed by the resilience that the industry has and how, even during the pandemic, when the first thought should have been, would have been, 'how am i going to survive?' the fashion industry came together and created ppe for hospitals and worked together to help frontline workers. so, it absolutely amazes me the resilience and altruism of this industry. at the same time, we do see that designers are incredibly concerned about the impact of brexit, the impact of covid, on their businesses. they're also seeing that traditional retail approaches to fashion are changing. but i think it was our responsibility, as the organisation that represents the fashion industry, to give them as big a chance as possible to get trade audience, a global and international audience, like you who couldn't travel, but also to open it up to consumers.
